It is said that the expression of a photograph is expressed by "light", but at the same time, it is also expressed by "shadow". Photograms, which are expressed without film, are the most faithful to the subject and one of the most primitive photographic techniques for expressing shadows most directly.
Christian Shad (Shadgraph), Man Ray (Rayyograph), Mohori Naji Laslow (Photogram), Iwata Nakayama, Eiku (Photo Drawing) are famous in Japan, but WH -It also appeared in Fox Talbot's world's oldest photo collection "Pencil of Nature", and was born almost at the same time as "general photography" in the era of the creation of photography.
However, it is no exaggeration to say that it is a technique that is almost extinct in modern times, especially in the age of digital mainstream, away from "photographic paper". However, the resolution and reproducibility of photograms without reduction are meaningful in terms of expression.
Furthermore, it is an important factor that the process of "reproduction" is not included as a technique.
The meaning of my expression using this technique was a reaction to the existing photographic expression. It is an attempt to break away from the state of machine dependence, duplication, and the predominance of realistic expression.
フォトグラム
写真の表現とは『光』をもって表現されていると言われるが、同時に『影』よって表現されていることにもなる。
フィルムを介さないで表現されるフォトグラムは最も被写体に忠実で、陰影を最も直接的に表現する最もプリミティブな写真技法の一つだ。
フォトグラムはクリスチャン・シャド(シャドグラフ)、マン・レイ(レイヨグラフ)、モホリ・ナジ・ラスロー(フォトグラム)、日本なら中山岩太、瑛九(フォトデッサン)らが有名であるが、W・H・フォックス・タルボットの世界最古の写真集『Pencil of Nature(自然の鉛筆)』でも登場し、写真の創世の時代に“一般的”な写真とほぼ同時に生まれている。
だが現代において、「印画紙」を離れ、特にデジタル主流の時代においてはほぼ絶滅が危惧される技法であると言っても過言ではないだろう。
しかしながらフォトグラムの持つ解像度、縮小を伴わない再現性は表現において有意義である。 さらに技法として『複製』のプロセスは含まれていない点は重要な要素である。
